Mickey 17's Box Office Run: Is It Making Enough Money?

So, Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon Ho teamed up for a movie, Mickey 17. Big deal, right? Well, people were pretty excited. The movie cost around $118 million to make, which is a ton of dough. It's been out for less than a week, and it's already made back about 38% of that budget. Not bad, but is it enough?

The story is doing well overseas, especially in South Korea. It sold over two million tickets there during its second weekend.

Critics and fans seem to like the film. People are saying good things about director Bong Joon Ho and Pattinson, the lead guy. Pattinson became super after Twilight, and tons of folks liked him as Batman in that recent movie. Bong Joon Ho is famous for Parasite, which even won an Oscar. Put them together, and you've got a lot of talent. But that doesn't always equal money in the bank.

Back in the States, Mickey 17 made another $1.6 million recently but dropped about 65% since the previous Sunday. After four days, it's sitting at around $20.6 million domestically. It was the only movie that made over a million bucks at the US box office but its collection is below Tenet’s $2.3 million, Civil War’s $2 million and Napoleon’s $1.5 million.

Internationally, the film has pulled in $24.7 million so far, which brings the total to $45.28 million worldwide. That's how they got to 38% of the budget back.

In South Korea, it had Warner Bros.' best second weekend since COVID, making $3.9 million at the collection. In total, it has made $14.4 million in Joon Ho's home country after just 10 days.

Mickey 17 hit theaters on March 7th.
